Crochet Strawberry Cow Pattern Free – Patchwork C2C Square

Crochet a strawberry cow today with this cute pattern (it’s free!). This super cute C2C crochet pattern for a patchwork strawberry cow can be used in so many ways, like a wall hanging, a tote bag, or a blanket square. Of course, you could make a regular cow instead but I think they’re extra cute when they are pink and white!

The crochet strawberry cow pattern includes a free chart and full written instructions but there’s actually an easier way to follow along too, using the join as you go method for C2C (a free tutorial is linked in the pattern) and the handy graphic included. This is the way I did it and it made for so many less color changes.

I’d love to see what you make with this crochet strawberry cow pattern so feel free to message me or tag me if you make one! @nineinspired on IG & Tiktok and @nineinspiredblog on Pinterest and Facebook

JAYGO Option

I recommend working this pattern in strips using the JAYGO method for C2C and following along with the graphic. (Traditional graph and instructions found further along in the pattern, if you prefer)

On the graphic, each square represents a C2C square that is 3×3 tiles.  (You could do 4×4 tiles, 5×5 tiles, etc. if you want to make the project bigger) For squares that are split in half, one of the colors will get 2 rows and the other will get 3 rows. (3 rows for pink on pink/white and pink/blue squares. 3 rows for brown on brown/blue squares.)

Start with column 1, working one patchwork square in 2 shades of blue. Continue your way up the column square by square, building upon your existing work.

Next move to column 2, joining it to column 1 as you go. Continue in this fashion for all columns.

The cow ears are made separately and then attached so that they can move freely.

Traditional C2C

Line by line instructions are given starting from the bottom right corner and going up to the top left corner. Arrows indicate the direction of the work.

Adding the Details

Make four brown circles as follows: Start with a magic circle, ch 3, and dc 11 in the circle, pull on the starting tail to close the circle, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

For two of the squares, embroider a little line and a dot to make reflections in the eye. Sew the four circles on according to the graphic on page 2.

To add the ears, fold the work in half where the attachment is indicated, and hold the ear next to that. Use an embroidery needle to whip stitch the two together.

Border

Attach your favorite shade of blue in one corner. *Ch 3 and sl st to the next space between tiles, rep from * all the way around, adding a picot stitch in each of the corners as you go. Sl st to your first ch to join.

Ch 3 and dc 2 in the first ch-3 space, dc 3 in each remaining ch-3 space and picot stitch around. Sl st to the top of your ch 3 to join. Fasten off.

Finishing

Whip stitch one dowel or stick on the top edge of the work and another on the bottom edge.

Make a length of chain or crochet icord about 18” (46 cm) and sew it on either side of the top of the work to make a hanger.
