How to Extended Crossed Tunisian Simple Stitch

Say that 10 times fast! I know it’s a mouthful, but I’m not actually sure if this stitch pattern has a name. What is does have though is tons of drape, so it’s absolutely perfect for making garments!

The other thing that makes this tunisian crochet stitch pattern great for garments is that the surface of the work is nearly solid. This is obviously a really good quality for clothes to have, so that you don’t have to worry about wearing an undershirt or a slip. The combination of solid and not stiff in a stitch pattern can be tricky to find, so you will definitely want to bookmark this tutorial for future projects!

Materials

Lion Brand Truboo Yarn – shown in the color Seafoam

5 mm tunisian crochet hook

Special Stitches

etss = extended tss

Like other extended stitches (tunisian and regular crochet alike) this is just the normal stitch plus a chain 1. Like this: Insert your hook into the vertical bar indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, then chain 1. See? Easy!

Foundation Row

Chain 20 (or any even number of stitches)

Pull up a loop in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across (you should end up with 20 loops on your hook.

Return like normal: Ch 1, *yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat from the * until 1 loop remains on your hook.

Now you can get started on the tutorial!

And that’s it! A few more rows and you should be able to commit this simple stitch pattern to memory. I like stitch patterns that are easy to memorize so I can multitask while I crochet. Netflix anyone?! 🙂

You can get lots of practice with your new favorite tunisian crochet stitch when you make my new Seafoam Summer Top! It’s a cute and casual design with a v-neck and a peek-a-boo lace panel on the back! Oh, and did I mention that it’s a free crochet pattern??

Happy Crocheting!
