Marshmallow Easter Chick Crochet Patterns Free

Pretty pastel colors make perfect crochet chicks for Easter baskets. And the best part is that they’re super fast to make too! So fast, in fact, that I just had to whip up 6 in rainbow colors to show them off. What do you think? They’re not all made with the same yarn, so they each look a little different. I emphasized the differences even further by giving each chick something unique! You can make a whole flock of adorable chicks using these Easter chick crochet patterns free.

The pink one has a bow. The orange one is the biggest. The yellow one has a bigger beak. The green one has yarn eyes instead of safety eyes. The blue one is one row shorter (and his comb stands up a little taller to compensate). And the purple one got some sassy eyebrows. (She’s my favorite lol). Oh, and did I mention the best part? There’s no sewing involved! The comb and the wings are worked as part of the body, so you will finish with these Easter chick crochet patterns free even faster.

Make a few for your kiddos, or whip up a batch to sell. I’ve even got free printable packaging for you to use! These cute little milk carton style containers are the perfect size to hold the little marshmallow chicks. The surprise is part of the fun! The back of the carton is blank so you can stamp on your business logo or tape on a business card.

Score and fold along the dotted lines and cut along the solid lines. Double sided tape or a good glue stick works best to put it together. Just think how cute these would look lined up on your craft fair table! Download the free printable here.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they also fit nicely in plastic Easter eggs! Can you imagine the look on your little one’s face when they open an egg up to reveal the adorable crochet chick inside? I also think it would be fun to make a few, put them in eggs, and then hide the eggs around the park for random passersby to find. There’s no wrong way to use these Easter chick crochet patterns free.

The pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join after each round. Simply continue onto the next round. Use a stitch marker or a scrap piece of yarn to keep track of the beginning of the round.

Don’t crochet over your starting tail or weave it in early. You’ll need it later on to form the marshmallow shape.

Start with a magic circle

Round 1: sc 6 in the circle, ch 5, sl st to the 3rd ch from the hook, [ch 3, sl st to the 4th ch from the hook] x2 (6)

*The italicized portion forms the chick’s comb. You won’t work into those stitches again and it doesn’t count towards the stitch count. Just ignore it as you proceed with the pattern.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12)

Round 3: [2 sc in the next st, 1 sc in the next st] x6 (18)

Round 4: [1 sc in the next 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st] x6 (24)

Round 5: in the back loops only sc around (24)

Rounds 6-8: sc in each st around (24)

Round 9: 1 sc in the next 6 sts, ch 5, sl st to the 3rd ch from the hook, [ch 3, sl st to the 4th ch from the hook] x2 , 1 sc in the next 12 sts, ch 5, sl st to the 3rd ch from the hook, [ch 3, sl st to the 4th ch from the hook] x2 , 1 sc in the next 6 sts.

Rounds 10-12: sc in each st around (24)

Time to do the face! Place the eyes centered between the wings, between rows 7 & 8, 4 stitches apart. You can use safety eyes or black yarn. To use the yarn, just cut a piece of yarn 4″ long. Tie a knot in the middle of the yarn, put the two ends of the yarn into spaces next to each other and knot them again on the inside to secure.

Blush marks go one stitch under the eyes and one stitch towards the wing on that side. Cut a piece of pink yarn about 3″ long, put the two ends of the yarn into spaces next to each other and knot them loosely inside to secure. Do it again for the other blush. Follow the same instructions with black yarn if you’d like to add eyebrows.

Place the beak centered between the eyes, between rows 9 & 10. Cut a piece of yarn about 4″ long, tie a double knot in the middle of the yarn, put the two ends of the yarn into spaces next to each other and knot them again on the inside to secure.

Pull the starting tail out the back of the body in any stitch between rows 9 & 10

Round 13: in the back loops only [1 sc in the next 2 sts, sc the next 2 sts together] x6 (18)

Round 14: [1 sc in the next st, sc the next 2 sts together] x6

Round 15: [sc the next 2 sts together] x3, leave the remaining sts unworked. Fasten off.

Stuff the body. Don’t overstuff it, because we’re going to compact things a bit when we form the marshmallow shape. Use the ending yarn tail to close up the opening: weave it in and out of the opening and then pull tightly to close.

Then stick your crochet hook into the same spot that the starting tail is coming out of, and then down through the center of the bottom. Grab the ending yarn tail and pull it through so that both tails are coming out of the same spot in the back. Pull on the two tails to flatten out the bottom and the top of the chick, double knot them tightly together to keep them that way. Then you can just push them through the hole and into the body to conceal them.

To make the legs, cut an orange piece of yarn about 6″ long. Put one end of the yarn into the space directly below one eye and between rows 11 & 12. Pull it out directly below the other eye and between the same rows. Tie a knot in each end of the yarn, leaving about an inch of space in between the knot and the body. Cut the yarn below each knot and you’re done.
