Little Crochet Shark Lovey Blanket – Free Pattern

I occasionally babysit for one of my good friends. She has an adorable little baby who just turned one last November. (He has the same birthday month as me!) His favorite show is Baby Shark, so I of course had to make him a Crochet Shark Lovey!

The best part about this free Crochet Shark Lovey pattern is that there is very little sewing. You are going to love the fact that the little shark fins on the side are crocheted at the same time as the body, because it is going to save you a lot of time. And you’ll find that sewing the top half of the body onto the bottom half of the body is a breeze, since both pieces are left open ended and have the same amount of stitches.

For the blanket part I chose a variety of blue yarn scraps from my stash. I chose a variation on classic chevron crochet that has more soft waves than sharp peaks and valleys. If you can’t tell, I was going for ocean vibes. I love the way that it turned out, but you can of course choose to substitute with your favorite lovey blanket pattern instead. Just mix and match my little shark with the other lovey.

Embroidery

With Black – Embroider eyes in row 12, 7 sts apart from each other.  I like to start with a star shape and then go around and around underneath the lines of the star until the circle is full.

Embroider 3 lines for the gills above each fin. Use your stitches to close the gap between the fin and the body.

Embroider little eyebrows 2 sts up and over from the top of the eyes. Embroider the mouth between rows 13 and 14, 2 sts in from the eyes on either side.

Use the starting yarn tail from your shark belly to embroider the white highlights in the eyes. (You’ll attach the belly to the body in the next step)

Assembly of the Crochet Shark Lovey

Sew the shark belly onto the body. When you’re about ¾ of the way done with the sewing, stuff the body. Then sew up the rest. Attach the top fin to the middle of the top of the shark body. Attach row 2 of your lovey to row 4 of your shark belly.
