Gotta catch all them admiring looks at the next gamer convention. Wow your child with their very own Trainer Tam inspired by the starter hats on the Pokemon Shield and Pokemon Sword games. This hat would make an excellent addition to a cosplay, don’t you think? I recommend wearing it pinned to the hair to keep it in place.
The bulk of this hat is double crochet so it works up very quick. The pattern includes tips on color changes and ways to make the seam less obvious so your hat comes out looking like a professional made it. Instructions are also given on how to make the cross pieces and bauble that give the Trainer Tam it’s distinctive look.

Gauge
Row 1: Ch 16, dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and each ch across (14).
Rows 2-8: Ch 2, dc in the same st and each st across. (14)
Your swatch should roughly measure 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm). If not, adjust hook size up or down accordingly.
Notes
The hat and the bauble both start with the magic circle. If you prefer you can instead ch 3 and sl st together to form a ring.
Turning after each round may seem a little different at first but it helps to make the seam less noticeable. Ignore your slip stitch when you turn your work and make sure that you are working into the last stitch of the previous round instead.
Color change: complete the last stitch indicated with the current color, sl st to the beginning of the new round using the new color.
Ch 2 does not count as a dc.
